This place provides an excellent opportunity to see a varied bird population commonly found on steep rocky slopes.  You can expect to see species like the black wheatear:  a black-feathered bird with a bright white tail and slightly bigger than a sparrow.

Seabirds like seagulls, cormorant and gannets can be observed especially during their migration season in the months of February, March and August.

Sea cliffs of the beach of La Joya are formed along the coastline by the undercutting action of the sea. Unlike the coast of Malaga and Almería with wide beaches and coastal plains, this place is characterised by its dramatic cliffs formed as a result of the tectonic collapse of marine sediments, which prevents the accumulation of scree to form a wide surface over the sea.

Itinerary:

This route winds its way from the eastern end of the Beach promenade of Torrenueva Costa where there is a path heading east that will take you into a built-up area. After passing through several greenhouses, you will reach a footpath leading off to the right (seaward) that will take you to an overview with vistas out across the surrounding landscape of Torrenueva and La Joya Beach.

The trail continues to a footpath, which runs along the edge of the cliffs towards the naturist beach of La Joya, located in a small cove. Leaving La Joya behind, you will pass through a narrow path with two fenced cottages as you wind your way up over a car park located next to the N-340 road where the trail comes to an end.

About half a kilometre, there is an option to visit the Sacratif lighthouse. Take the N-340 road in direction to Almería and then take the first turn-off to the right that will take you to a  road with paved and dirt tracks.
